Amid scenes of babies laughing, crying, and playing, Ail remarks that babies are "strong and fresh." An says that they will be their next target for stealing energy. He holds out a handful of cards and tells her to choose the one best suited for this operation.

Ail stands on the roof top of Juuban Municipal Nursery School, Ail plays a melody his flute to call forth the Cardian Amaderasu. In the school's yard, children laugh and play as their parents come to pick them up. Manami's mother picks the child up from the ground. A teacher says "Bye Bye," and encourages the baby to do the same. Usagi and Ami walk past the school and stop when they see how cute the baby is. They ask the baby's name, the mother says that it is Manami.

Suddenly, a bright orange light flashes from above and Amaderasu appears high in the sky. A ball of energy forms in her hands and thin, sparkling strings float to the Earth. The strings envelope the babies and toddlers, draining them of their energy. The adults are also affected. Everyone is knocked unconscious. Once everyone's energy is depleted, Amaderasu disappears.

Because Usagi and Ami are standing outside the gate, they witness everything but are unaffected. Manami soon crawls from underneath the mother; she was holding the baby when she was knocked unconscious.

Mamoru appears on the scene, having seen everything. He instructs the girls to call an ambulance, which they immediately do. Ambulances rush the mothers and babies to the hospital. Usagi, Ami, and Mamoru ride in the ambulance with Manami and his mother.

Back at Juuban Odyssey, Ail and An sit near the Makaiju discussing their success. They have gathered a lot of energy, and intend to gather even more from babies. Ail mentions that they don't know when the Sailor Senshi might show up, so they need to be careful with their operations.

The babies and their mothers who were attacked are at Azabu General Hospital, where Usagi, Mamoru, and Ami are on the scene. Usagi asks Ami if the babies will be alright, and Ami says that they will be released within a week. Ami has also learned that Manami will be fine because her mother protected her (they believe that Manami is a girl due to the feminine name).

Ami says that Manami's mother can leave the hospital in three days, but the father is on a business trip in another country right now, so there is no one to care for the baby in the interim.

Mamoru volunteers to take care of the child. Ami cautions him that it will be very difficult. She says that it won't be easy and that he should think about his decision carefully. The baby begins to cry while Ami continues, "A baby can't speak, but she has all kinds of emotions. When she cries, it's not easy to figure out why."

The baby thinks, "She's right! I dont' like it when my mom's not with me." Usagi picks up the baby and says this is going to be a lot of work. She decides to help Mamoru, and asks Ami if she will also be helping. Ami declines, saying that she doesn't want to get in their way.

Mamoru takes the infant back to his apartment and tries to cheer Manami by making silly faces. Manami thinks, "This guy is pretty funny!" and stops crying. When Usagi tries to make her own faces, Manami laughs harder. Mamoru crossly tells "Odango Atama" that she can go home now. He says, "I am the one who volunteered for this. I don't want to make trouble for you." He picks up the baby and begins to play.

Usagi thinks to herself, "What's wrong with him? I was thinking of bringing the baby home! But I knew it; Mamoru is such a nice guy!" She sits on the bed and leans her head on him, causing Manami to wonder if she likes Mamoru. Usagi soon begins to blush and stands up, trying to make small talk by remarking on how clean his apartment is.

Manami starts to cry again, and Mamoru thinks that the baby may be hungry. He rummages through a bag for formula, which Usagi quickly grabs and takes into the kitchen to prepare. Not being very deft in the kitchen, she has a very hard time with it. When she emerges, she has formula all over her!!

She tries to give Manami the bottle, but to no avail. Mamoru thinks it may be too hot, so Usagi tests it by putting it into her own mouth and drinking it. She says it is good! Manami thinks, "No, no. I'm not hungry; my diaper is wet!"

Mamoru says that he has discovered the real problem, causing Usagi to panic, thinking that baby is sick!! He tells her that no, it is simply that her diaper is wet. He remarks that there are some disposable diapers in the bag and begins to change the baby's diaper, but Usagi pushes him out of the way and says that this is no job for a guy!

The entire time, everyone has thought that the baby was a girl due to the feminine name of Manami. But when Usagi opens the diaper, she is shocked to discover that Manami is actually a boy!

Once the diaper is successfully changed, Manami starts to cry again. Usagi thinks that he has a wet diaper again, but this time, he's hungry. Mamoru gives him the bottle, which sooths him. Usagi remarks how easily he seems to "read the baby's mind," and asks if he's ever thought of having kids. He dryly asks if she's serious, causing her to blush and wonder to herself why she's always asking stupid questions.

When Manami finishes his bottle, Mamoru tries to get him to say "milk." Usagi disagrees with his teaching method, and tries to get him to walk a little instead. He can't; he keeps falling down. Mamoru smugly tells her that he only knows how to crawl, that standing is hard enough, and that there's no way he'll walk. She is angry and sarcastically says, "Well, sorry I don't know these things!" They are both angry with each other, and cross their arms as Manami looks on.

Soon, Usagi storms away from the apartment, wondering what's wrong with Mamoru. She thinks that he comments too much on what she does, and that he's very arrogant. She calms down a little and stops on a bridge. As she sadly looks down into the water, she wonders if she and Mamoru are fundamentally incompatible. She begins to cry.

[Commercial Break]

On Sunday morning, Luna wakes up in the Tsukino household to find that Usagi has already left for the day. This is quite surprising, since Usagi usually sleeps in on Sundays. She has gone out shopping with Mamoru and Manami. She wonders if she bought enough food and diapers, but Mamoru thinks she bought too much, since the baby will only be with him for two more days.

As they are strolling down the sidewalk, Natsumi sees them. She is shocked to see the two of them with a baby, and wonders if they have gotten married. She angrily considers confronting them, but stops when Minako and Makoto speak to Usagi. Instead, she hides behind a vending machine to watch the scene unfold.

Minako jokingly asks Usagi when she had Mamoru's baby. Usagi's face turns red; she angrily says that there's no way she would do something like that! Ami joins the group and asks what she did with Mamoru, making Usagi even angrier! During her protests, Makoto asks why she's blushing. She says that there's no way Minako would really think something happened between Usagi and Mamoru.

Ami whispers to Usagi that they're on their way to Rei's place to learn more about the new Cardian, and asks her to please join them.

At Hikawa Jinja shrine, Rei reads the fire and sees the new Cardian who attacked the babies. Inside of the fire, she sees the "Sun" tarot card, which is associated with happiness and love in marriages. Ami thinks that sounds nice. Rei quickly says that if the card is turned upside-down, it can signal trouble in marriages, or the ending of an engagement.

Minako jokingly wonders aloud if that refers to Usagi and Mamoru. Usagi reminds her that their relationship has not yet gone that far! Makoto asks if they'll just be friends forever, which upsets Usagi. She begins to storm out to go see the baby again.

Suddenly, Rei stands up and says that she recognizes the Cardian's evil aura. When she feels it again, they will be able to locate and destroy it.

At Mamoru's apartment, he is struggling to care for the baby alone. While he tries to prepare a bottle, Manami pulls all of the tissues out of a box! Natsumi soon bursts into the apartment, saying that she heard what happened at the hospital. She says that she came to help him.

Natsumi picks up Manami to stop him from making a mess, and tells him not to cry, that Mamoru is preparing milk for him. He thinks to himself that he does not like this girl! Mamoru peeks around the corner and says that the baby's diaper might be wet, so Natsumi volunteers to change it.

Once she removes the diaper, she realizes that it is not wet. Manami continues to cry and thinks that she is very creepy. He then pees on her face!! Natsumi is disgusted. She runs away to wash her face, while Mamoru gives the infant a bottle to calm him. When she returns, she asks if there is anything she can do. She picks up the baby, but he pees on her again! This time, she nearly drops him (fortunately, Mamoru catches him) and says that she is leaving.

Just then, Usagi walks in. She sees Natsumi storm out of the apartment and sadly says that it doesn't matter who takes care of the baby. She begins to leave, but Mamoru stops her and tells her that Natsumi just came uninvited. He asks her what's wrong, so she tells him that she doesn't like a guy who doesn't understand a girl's feeling.

Manami looks on and stands up. He soon takes a few steps forwards before falling down in front of the tissue box. He giggles and begins pulling tissues out of the box again. Usagi and Mamoru are amazed!!! The laugh and jump for joy. Ami walks in and sees them, but thinks she has come at a bad time. Usagi blushes and tells her it's not what she thinks; Manami walked for the first time!

Mamoru tries to get Manami to walk again. With him distracted, Ami whispers to Usagi that the Senshi are in trouble. Rei recognized the Cardian's evil aura! They excuse themselves from the apartment.

At Nakayoshi Koyoshi Nursery School, infants are happily playing in the courtyard. An orange glow appears in the sky, and Amaderasu is seen in a halo of light. Just like before, a blue orb glows in her hands as she prepares to attack. This time, however, the Senshi are there to stop her. Sailor Mars, Sailor Venus, and Sailor Jupiter have arrived on the scene.

Sailor Venus uses her "Crescent Beam" attack, but Amaderasu is barely fazed. The Cardian creates orange bubbles which engulf the babies. Once the infants are inside the bubbles, they float up and create a protective shield around Amaderasu. The Senshi realize that they can't attack her like this.

Soon, Ami and Usagi arrive. They quickly transform into Sailor Mercury and Sailor Moon, but they are attacked by Amaderasu. The Cardian then releases her sparkling, energy-collecting strings. They fall upon Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury, causing the girls to lose their energy.

A white rose flies through the air, striking Amaderasu's face. Because of the distraction, the Senshi and the babies are released. The Moonlight Knight appears and says, "Sundays are supposed to be quiet days for us to spend with our families. I shall not allow a monster to run amok! Babies are adorable. Nothing is better than babies' smiles when we kiss their tender cheeks.

Sailor Mercury stands and says, "That's right! Trying to use those babies as a shield is unforgivable! I'm mad now!" She uses a new attack, "Sabão Spray Freezing." As the bubbles hit her, Amaderasu is completely frozen solid.

Sailor Moon is shocked by Sailor Mercury's new attack. Mercury explains that her anger at the Cardian must have increased her anger, giving her the new attack. She then warns Sailor Moon that if she doesn't hurry, the powerful ice will melt the sun's heat.

Sailor Moon uses her "Moon Princess Halation" attack to completely destroy Amaderasu.

All of the babies at the daycare begin to cry. Before leaving, the Moonlight Knight says, "When you care for a baby for the first time, you learn to appreciate a mother's love. Adieu."

Later, Usagi and Mamoru take Manami back to his mother. They meet her at the hospital; she is able to leave a day early! She thanks them for everything they did. They bend down to the stroller to tell Manami goodbye, and he surprises them by saying, "Mamoru! Usagi! Bye Bye!"

Episode 053 - Did you notice...?

The store that Mamoru and Usagi walk past when they go shopping for supplies with Manami is called "Baby & Child Endo" ("Endo" as in "Endymion").

When Natsumi sees Mamoru and Usagi walking with the baby, she is shown standing near a vending machine. Inside the vending machine is a product called "Toke" with a familiar "Coca-Cola" ("Coke") design on the label. Two cans also bear the letter "A" (for "An").
