Usagi begs Ami to have pity on her give her the answers to tomorrow's test. Ami warily says, "Even if I were to give you the answers right now, if you don't understand them, you'll be in trouble later." Usagi cries and says the "test from Hell" is tomorrow and she's been failing everything! She says that she feels like the proverb, "a drowning man will grasp at any rope." Ami still refuses, and corrects her by saying that a drowning man will grasp at any straw - not rope.

Makoto chimes in to tell Usagi that she's asking too much of Ami. Usagi asks, "Then why did you come with me, Mako-chan?" Makoto sheepishly says that she thought if she asked, she would be all set for the test. Ami scorns the girls, saying that they will be in ninth grade next year, and should be more responsible. Makoto is ashamed of herself, but Usagi says that she'll just worry about that when she becomes a ninth grade.

Suddenly, the girls hear a boy screaming. Nearby, a boy is being attacked by a lion-like Cardian, Falion. A wheel spins in the air and becomes transparent; as it does so, it drains the young man's energy from him. Makoto rushes to the scene and sees that the boy being attacked is Shinozaki, an acquaintance of hers.

The Cardian leaps towards her, but Shinozaki pushes her out of the way. Unfortunately, after saving her, he falls down a ravine. Makoto sees him lying in a pool of blood. Ami and Usagi see everything. When they call out to their friend, the Cardian sees them and quickly disappears into the night.

Makoto rushes to Shinozaki's side and lifts him up. He is unconscious and bleeding from his head. An ambulance quickly arrives to retrieve him, but they do not have enough type O blood for a transfusion. Makoto says that she is type O, and offers to donate her own blood.

Meanwhile, Ail plays his flute at Juuban Odyssey Apartments. The wheel that the Cardian used to collect energy appears and spins again, this time releasing the energy into the Makaiju. The tree glows and is temporarily revived. The Cardian transforms back into a card showing a lion and a spindle.

Ail notes that they have used a spinning wheel that spins people's happiness and unhappiness. "No one can stop the turning of fate." An says that they managed to survive today in an easy victory, but Ail reminds her that they shouldn't be so confident because five "terrible enemies" - the Senshi - have appeared. An says that everyone on Earth is their enemy. He agrees and says that no one must find out who they really are. She tells him that he is the only one he can depend on, and the two kiss.

In the hospital room, Makoto lies in bed as she donates blood for Shinozaki. Shinozaki lies in a bed nearby, completely unconscious. Usagi, who has the same blood type, tells her that she is willing to switch if she gets anemic. Makoto stoically tells Ami and Usagi to go home and study for the test tomorrow. Ami says that since she studies so hard, she doesn't need to cram right before the test. Usagi also says that even if she crams tonight, it won't make any difference.

Ami asks who the boy is, and Makoto tells her that it is someone important to her. She says, "Whenever I need someone, he's always there. That's him. I don't remember exactly, but it was when I was dumped by my boyfriend. Who knows how many times I got dumped before that?" As the song Anata no Sei ja Nai (It's Not Your Fault) begins to play, she thinks back to a rainy day in the park when she was dumped by her boyfriend. Her boyfriend leaves her standing in the rain, but Shinozaki appears and kindly offers to let her stand under his umbrella.

She continues her story by saying, "The person who gently put an umbrella over my head was Shinozaki, my childhood friend. Ever since I was little, whenever I was in pain or having a hard time, he was always there when I looked up. It was the same thing tonight. He tried to save me when he was the one in danger." Usagi excitedly thinks that this means they are both "really in love," but Makoto says, "No... but maybe he's far, far more precious to me than even a lover."

Later that night, Usagi sits down and resolves to restore Mamoru's memory with her own power. Luna interrupts her, thinking that she is studying, to tell her that the girls have decided to get together at Hikawa Jinja after school the next day for a discussion. When she can't seem to get the girl's attention, she leaps onto the table to see that Usagi is not studying; instead, she is drawing pictures of herself with Mamoru.

The next day, the girls and the cats meet at Hikawa Jinja. Usagi is late. Luna tells them that they have discovered that the enemy is going after the life energy of humans. Artemis says that the Dark Kingdom was destroyed, so these new events must mean that a new enemy has emerged. Rei notes that the evil aura is quite different from the ones before. Ami says that the recent events could be related to the strange incident two weeks ago when a light plummeted to Earth and made a massive crater in Tokyo.

Makoto angrily says that it doesn't matter who they are; she will bring them down with her bare hands! Ami asks how Shinozaki is doing, and Makoto tells them that he is still in bed and cannot get up yet. Luna remarks that Usagi is running very late. Minako initially says that she might be studying for her test... but thinks better of it.

Meanwhile, Usagi is running towards Hikawa Jinja as fast as she can. On the way, she sees Natsumi Ginga talking to Mamoru. Natsumi asks Mamoru to go to a disco with her, but he says that the idea is very strange. Instead, she suggests karaoke and begins singing.

Usagi quickly intervenes and tells Natsumi to stop. She begs Mamoru to please remember the past, but he is clearly confused. She holds up the drawing she did the night before and says, "Once upon a time, there was a prince on Earth name Endymion. And the prince fell in love with the Moon Princess, Serenity. But they were attacked by the evil Dark Kingdom and got separated. After that, Endymion disguised himself as Tuxedo Kamen, and he protected Serenity from the bad guys. And the two of them were..."

Natsumi snatches away the drawing and tells Usagi that she is too old for fairy tales. When they look up, Mamoru has walked away. Natsumi chases after him, but Usagi sadly realizes that he did not remember his past. She wonders what she should do if he falls in love with Natsumi...

A red rose suddenly appears in front of her. At first she thinks it is Tuxedo Kamen... but in reality, it is Seijuuro Ginga. He is holding a bouquet of roses and tells her that she is too pretty to cry. He then says, "I have some good news for you. Congratulations! I love you very much! Please accept my love. Our love is eternal like the universe. Now, let us sail beyond the stars."

She starts to accept the roses, but snaps out of the trance when she drops her papers on the sidewalk. She quickly runs away. Seijuuro thinks to himself that the more she rejects him, the more he wants her. He is determined to make her his soon.

[Commercial Break]

At Hikawa Jinja, Rei does a fire reading to see a vision of the Cardian that attacked Shinozaki. The other girls recognize it right away, and Rei sees that it is looking for another victim. They quickly leave to find the Cardian.

Usagi is late for the meeting, as usual. She is standing outside the temple, completely out of breath. She sees the other girls running down the temple steps, but they have transformed into Senshi. Sailor Mercury stops to tell her to follow them. She hesitates because she is confused, but Sailor Mars scolds her and tells her to hurry up. She quickly transforms into Sailor Moon and follows the other girls.

Sailor Mars runs in the direction in which she feels the aura, which is a darker area and may be easier for an attack. Suddenly, Sailor Jupiter becomes ill and needs to slow down. Sailor Moon realizes that she is suffering from anemia due to giving so much blood the night before. She tells her friend to that she needs to go home and rest, then says, "I know I'm a slowpoke and I'm always running away, but I'll work twice as hard for you today!" She begins to cry.

Sailor Jupiter says that she wants to make sure that no one else ends up like Shinozaki, and she is determined to beat the monster. Sailor Moon sadly says that she won't try to stop Jupiter anymore, but begs her not to push herself too hard. The girls run behind their friends.

Meanwhile, Falion attacks a couple nearby. The Senshi soon arrive on the scene to stop her. Sailor Jupiter attacks with Supreme Thunder, but the Cardian stops her with a blast of energy, knocking her backwards. Sailor Mars retaliates by attacking with Akuryou Taisan, but Falion shreds the ofuda while it is still in the air, thereby stopping the attack.

Sailor Venus attempts to attack as well, but is also stopped by a burst of energy. This time, all of the girls except for Sailor Moon are sent flying back. Sailor Moon manages to dodge another burst of energy, but is soon cornered by the beast.

Suddenly, a white rose flies through the air and strikes Falion's paw. When Sailor Moon looks up, she sees a mysterious man in white Arab-style clothing. He says, "Tonight's moon is perfect for lovers. It is not a night suitable for horrifying monsters." The man looks and sounds like Tuxedo Kamen, but identifies himself as the Moonlight Knight.

Falion leaps through the air at Moonlight Knight, but he dodges her attack. He then flings a small scimitar at the Cardian's spinning wheel, destroying it and knocking Falion unconscious. Before disappearing, Moonlight Knight tells Sailor Moon that he looks forward to an upcoming opportunity to talk to her.

Sailor Jupiter wakes up just in time to see the very groggy Falion snap out of it and attack Sailor Moon, pinning her to the ground. Sailor Jupiter thinks about Sailor Moon and Shinozaki, then summons her strength and destroys Falion with her Supreme Thunder attack. She then loses her strength and falls to the ground. The other Senshi wake up and smile, seeing that everything is ok.

The next day, at Juuban General Hospital, Shinozaki is released into the care of a friend. Ami, Usagi, and Makoto watch him walk out of the hospital. When Usagi asks Makoto if she is going to go say hello, Makoto replies, "It's okay. He's always watching over me from a distance. So I will just stay here today..."

That night, Usagi sits in bed wondering what is going on between Shinozaki and Makoto. She wonders if a boy and girl can have a friendship that is different from love. She then thinks of Moonlight Knight and feels that he must be Endymion. She doesn't understand what is going on with him.

Suddenly, Luna holds up a math book and reminds Usagi that she has a test coming up! Usagi begins to cry and says that math is "much harder than the relationship between boys and girls!"
