Mamoru stands alone on the sidewalk in the Juuban Shopping District. Usagi suddenly appears and grabs his arm, cuddling next to him. He is extremely surprised and demands to know how she knows his name. She tells him not to be so surprised, and asks him to call her Usagi Tsukino instead of Odango Atama. He has clearly forgotten her name, and Usagi realizes that he hasn't recovered his memories of the past like she has. She thinks back to the love they shared in their previous life in the Silver Millennium. Even though she knows he doesn't remember, she still holds him closer. He tells her not to cling, and even asks if she is sick.
Natsumi Ginga is walking nearby when she recognizes Mamoru as "that handsome guy [she] saw the other day." Starstruck, she runs across the street, telling Usagi to hold Mamoru there. He sees that there's another "weird one" approaching, so he quickly gives the excuse that he is late for work before fleeing the scene. Usagi asks him where he works, but he refuses to share.
Just as Usagi is moving to follow Mamoru, Natsumi grabs her arm and angrily demands to know why she "let him get away." Natsumi learns for the first time that the man's name is Mamoru; she calls out her name to him as he is running away. Usagi begins to yell at Natsumi... but Natsumi quickly realizes that Mamoru is not dating Usagi, so she deduces that both girls are essentially in the same situation. Natsumi thinks about how she will "pierce [Mamoru's] heart with passionate Cupid's arrows," angering Usagi.
At the Tsukino household, Luna tells Artemis that they don't know if the newly arrived aliens are enemies... but there is no doubt that danger is coming. Although Sailor Moon is the only one who has been awakened, Artemis is steadfastly against awakening the other Senshi when they are living such peaceful lives. Luna is still worried about what they will do about the current problem, especially if they only have Usagi.
Usagi enters the room and exclaims that she is so worried! Without his old memories, Mamoru won't notice her at all. Artemis scolds her, saying that now is not the time for that. Luna reiterates that she thinks they should awaken the other Senshi. When Usagi hears this, she excitedly asks if they can revive Mamoru's memories. Luna says that she was talking about the other girls - not Mamoru.
Usagi says that if they want to protect the Earth, then she's enough for that... there's no need to bother the other girls. Artemis tells her that he is impressed by how much she has matured since her battle with the Dark Kingdom. She seems to be well-aware of her duties. She says that he's right; she can handle "a bad guy or two" by herself.
Usagi tosses a ball into the air, which immediately bounces off the wall and hits her in the face, knocking her down. Both cats are exasperated: Luna says that she can't really have faith in what the girl just said, and Artemis agrees.
In An and Ail's apartment at Juuban Odyssey, the aliens notice that the Makaiju's leaves are withering. They are running out of stored energy. In order to restore it, they will need to steal a lot of life energy from humans. An chooses a Cardian for the operation: Minotauron.
At the TV Ashita studio, directors review images of several girls to determine which would be best to play the role of Mikan Shiratori's younger sister in a new television show. The first image shows Naru, who they say looks like "the girl next door." Usagi is also in the shot, but they reject her image (she is being hit in the face with a volleyball). Next up is Makoto Kino, who they say is "perfect for the drama." Minako Aino, Ami Mizuno, and Rei Hino are also shown. The directors decide to have an audition to find the right girl.
An and Ail appear in shadows in the back of the room. They decide that these girls look like good targets from whom to drain a lot of energy. When the lights come on, the startled directors see the aliens and tell them that they aren't allowed to be in the room unless they are working on the project. An proceeds to use a blast of energy which causes all of the directors to become unconscious. Ail says, "I could drain their energy, but there's no need to fill myself up with these guys before we are about to collect high quality energy."
At school later on, Naru tells the incredulous Usagi that she is auditioning for a new TV drama. She then tells her friend that she is skeptical about going, because she always seems to get involved in "weird incidents." She worries that this could be another. Usagi tells her not to worry; weird incidents like that are rare. Usagi offers to go with her friend, but slyly thinks that she might get her own audition and become a star overnight.
Makoto arrives at TV Ashita, and Ami soon catches up with her. Minako and Rei also appear, and the girls decide to go in together. Rei says that the inside is much like a maze, so they don't want to get lost inside. The girls introduce themselves to each other, and each has a brief flash of recognition. They discover that they all feel as if they have met before, though to their knowledge, this is the first time.
Inside the studio, Usagi (who is holding Luna) is told that she cannot enter the audition hall with Naru. A security guard tells her to go home, then directs the other girls into the audition room. Usagi sees them and thinks that they seem to be doing just fine.
Inside the room, a man tells the girls that the auditions will begin. Ami stands up and says that she is thinking of turning down the audition, but no one pays her any attention. The man pulls back a curtain to reveal a very detailed set that looks similar to the ruins of the Moon Kingdom. Ail and An are standing atop one of the pillars, eyes aglow. Ail asks if they like this world of his...
Ami is oblivious that this is a trap, so she continues to tell them that she doesn't have time to act in a TV drama. She says that she will go home now, but as she leaves, Ail begins to play his flute. An summons forth the Cardian Minotauron, taking all of the girls by surprise.
Minotauron leaps down towards the girls, who realize that she is a real monster. Ail instructs the Cardian to attack the girls and steal their energy. She complies by charging towards them. They scream and run in the opposite direction, prompting Ail to remark that young girls' screams are more pleasing to his ears than the most beautiful music in the world.
An angrily tells him that this is enough playing around; they should go ahead and steal the girls' energy. He cheerfully says that he wants to take the opportunity to enjoy this "artful music." She says that she doesn't have the patience for this, then transforms into her civilian disguise as Natsumi Ginga before leaving.
Outside the audition room, Luna and Usagi are lost and wandering the halls. They are standing outside of the audition room's door when Natsumi comes outside. The girl is quite surprised to see Usagi is there. They each demand to know what the other is doing there, and each girl refuses to answer. Mamoru suddenly runs by, and the girls realize that he is working for TV Ashita. They decide to follow him.
A dark purple haze is emitted from the open door of the audition room, and Luna begins to feel something very eerie. She follows the "suspicious power" into the room, where she sees that girls running from Minotauron. They search for the exit, but are unable to find it. Naru becomes exhausted and falls to the ground. While Minako and Ami tend to her, Rei and Makoto decide that they have no choice but to turn and fight the Cardian.
Rei flings her purse at Minotauron to slow her down, then uses her Akuryou Taisan attack to stun the Cardian. Makoto uses the opportunity to grab Minotauron and fling her into a column, temporarily incapacitating her. Luna is amazed that the girls aren't even Senshi, but are still fighting against evil.
Meanwhile, Natsumi wanders through the halls of TV Ashita. She has lost sight of Mamoru, and is rapidly running out of energy. She stops into Mikan Shiratori's dressing room and attacks the young star, draining her of her energy.
Back in the audition room, Minotauron charges towards Naru and begins draining the girl's energy. In a move of desperation, Luna attacks the Cardian, distracting her enough to release Naru. Naru slumps to the ground, unconscious. The other girls rush to her side to pick her up, then attempt to escape. Ail cannot believe what is happening. He disappears from the area, leaving the rest up to the Cardian.
Luna struggles with whether or not to awaken the girls as Senshi. Usagi slips into the room, thinking that the audition is now over. She is confused about what is going on, but instead of explaining, Luna tells her to transform. She quickly uses "Moon Prism Power, Make Up!" to become Sailor Moon.
Just as Minotauron corners the girls, Sailor Moon shouts, "Hold it right there! I have no idea what's going on and I'm clueless... but I can never forgive someone who bullies girls! In the name of the moon... I will punish you!" The other girls feel that there is something vaguely familiar about this scenario, but can't quite identify what it is.
Sailor Moon attempts to heal the Cardian... but quickly realizes that she no longer has the Moon Stick. This stuns her and puts her at a disadvantage. Minotauron takes advantage of this to begin attacking the Senshi. Rei is angry that Sailor Moon keeps running away, and wants to do something, but is unsure about what to do. Luna realizes that seeing Sailor Moon is causing the girls to remember parts of their past.
Minotauron charges at Sailor Moon, using her massive horns to lift the girl into the air and drain her energy. Luna rushes forward and the other girls notice that she is talking. She turns around and tells them that they must help Sailor Moon. Naturally, they are quite confused. Luna quickly restores their memories of the past, and the girls immediately transform into Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus.
Sailor Mercury uses her Sab„o Spray attack to obscure the Cardian's vision and confuse her, while Sailor Jupiter uses her Supreme Thunder attack to shock the beast and temporarily incapacitate her. Sailor Mars and Sailor Venus use a combined Fire Soul/Crescent Beam attack to completely destroy Minotauron.
An and Ail briefly appear before the girls; they are shocked that there are five Sailor Senshi. Sailor Moon is extremely happy to see that her friends have been reawakened as Senshi. Sailor Mars teasingly adds, "You still can't do anything without us!"
At Hikawa Jinja the next day, Minako tells the girls that Mikan Shiratori's new television drama was canceled because the star collapsed from exhaustion. Ami is pleased because this will give her more time to focus on her studies, but Rei feels unlucky because she will have to argue with Usagi again.
Luna apologizes to the girls by saying, "If Usagi were more dependable, you could have kept your peaceful lives." Makoto cheerfully says that they had no choice because the new enemy showed up, and it is their mission to protect the Earth from harm. Usagi is elated; she says that now the only thing left to do is bring back Mamoru's memory.
