The episode begins with a brief summary by Luna of the previous episode's events, when Usagi was revealed to be the Moon Princess.
At Starlight Tower, everyone is surprised to see that Sailor Moon has transformed into Princess Serenity. Equally surprising to the Sailor Senshi is the fact that Tuxedo Kamen's true identity is Mamoru Chiba.
Zoisite decides to kill Princess Serenity and take the Ginzuishou for himself, but when he attacks, she easily deflects his attack and uses the Moon Stick to fling him into a wall. She then sits and places Tuxedo Kamen's head on her lap. He wakes up and says that he remembers everything now... he says that he is Endymion, and suddenly, she remembers as well.
Princess Serenity then has a series of flashbacks. She sees herself in the Moon Kingdom, giving Prince Endymion the orgel. Suddenly, there are flames everywhere, and the prince attempts to protect her from an unknown enemy.
When her thoughts return to the present, she transforms back into Sailor Moon and collapses. The Sailor Senshi rush to her aid, and find that she has simply fainted. Artemis speculates that the rush of her returning memories probably overwhelmed her. They attempt to awaken Mamoru, although he is badly injured.
Zoisite, who is also injured, manages to stand up, and Kunzite soon appears by his side. He tells Kunzite that Sailor Moon is the princess, and he understands immediately what has happened. The Senshi stand to confront him, but he tells them that he will allow them to live a bit longer. He uses a blast of energy to transport Tuxedo Kamen away, and both he and Zoisite quickly disappear as well, leaving the Senshi all alone.
When Kunzite and Zoisite return to the Dark Kingdom's lair, Queen Beryl is extremely angry with them for allowing the princess to awaken and for losing the Ginzuishou. Kunzite asks the queen to wait a while longer, because the princess has not yet gained full control of the Ginzuishou. She agrees, but she is still extremely angry with Zoisite. She knows that he went against her orders and tried to kill Tuxedo Kamen. Kunzite attempts to take responsibility, but she blasts Zoisite with a fatal burst of energy.
Queen Beryl then goes to consult Queen Metallia. Queen Beryl presents the unconscious Tuxedo Kamen to Metallia, lying him on the ground. They both now realize that he was once Prince Endymion of the Earth. Metallia instructs Beryl to use the power of darkness to revive Endymion.
Meanwhile, Kunzite tends to the dying Zoisite, apologizing for not being able to save him from Queen Beryl. Zoisite says that he is happy because he will be able to die in Kunzite's arms, but he asks to "die beautifully." Kunzite creates an illusion of flowers all around them, with flower petals floating through the air. Zoisite feels that he can now die beautifully, and he tells Kunzite that he loved him. As he dies, he disappears.
[Commercial Break]
At Starlight Tower, the senshi search for a way out. Sailor Mercury uses her visor and computer, and says, "This dimension is apparently an imaginary space that's been sealed off. In short, theoretically, the real dimension we were in is not directly connected to the three-dimensional space here. Instead, they should be connected only in two-dimensional space with the positive and negative phases reversed and passing through zero-dimensional space." They can now only depend on Sailor Mercury to get them out.
Sailor Moon wakes up and is shocked to find that Tuxedo Kamen is gone. Sailor Mars explains to her that he is alive, but that he has been taken by the enemy.
Now that the princess has been awakened, Artemis and Luna have had their memories returned as well. They step forward to tell the other Senshi everything about their past lives in the Moon Kingdom during the Silver Millennium.
They begin by saying that long, long ago, there was a peaceful kingdom on the moon called the Silver Millennium*. Princess Serenity lived there, and during her lifetime, an evil entity took over the Earth. The evil spirit then attacked the Moon Kingdom in order to attempt to gain control of the powerful Ginzuishou. The Moon Kingdom was completely destroyed in the war, but the power of the Ginzuishou was sealed away within the evil spirit.
Artemis explains that the four Sailor Senshi are reincarnations of the four warriors of the Moon Kingdom. The moon's queen wished for all four girls and the princess to live happily as normal girls, so she had them reincarnated on Earth during the present peaceful era. Unfortunately, even during this time of peace, someone broke the seal on the evil spirit, causing the girls to awaken as Sailor Senshi. If they do not work together to defeat the enemy now, their lives will not be peaceful.
All of the Senshi agree to fight, but Sailor Moon just doesn't want to fight anymore. She says that being told that she's a princess doesn't make her feel like one; she is not happy at all! She just wants to be Usagi Tsukino. She just doesn't care about the mission or her previous life. If everyone ends up like Tuxedo Kamen, she doesn't want to do it.
Sailor Mars slaps Sailor Moon and calls her a coward. Artemis says that Sailor Moon just needs time to recover from all that has happened to her, and Ami cheerfully says that she will go back to being the "same old Usagi" in no time. Until then, they will have to watch over her.
Sailor Mercury has found an exit, but as the Senshi leave, Kunzite appears before them. Sailor Jupiter attacks him with Supreme Thunder, but he simply absorbs the energy. Sailor Venus then attempts Crescent Beam, with the same result. He collects the energy into a sphere which he flings at Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter, knocking them to the ground. He severely injures them with another burst.
Sailor Mars turns to Sailor Moon and tells her to wake up, then attacks Kunzite with Fire Soul. Like before, he collects the energy and blasts her with it. With another burst of energy, he knocks Sailor Mercury and Sailor Moon to the ground, so that all of the Senshi are unconscious except for Sailor Moon.
Sailor Moon, seeing that everyone is injured, stands and raises the Moon Stick, which now has the Ginzuishou attached to it. Kunzite vows revenge for Zoisite, and he sends a large burst of pink energy towards Sailor Moon. Using the Ginzuishou's power, she is able to deflect his attack. He has no choice but to withdraw, and when he disappears, the Starlight Tower fades away.
Kunzite returns to the Dark Kingdom's lair, upset that Sailor Moon has learned to harness the power of the Ginzuishou. Meanwhile, Queen Beryl attempts to revive Tuxedo Kamen using dark energy.
After the brief battle with Kunzite, the Starlight Tower is destroyed. The Senshi soon emerge from the ruins of the building and thank Sailor Moon for saving them. She finally agrees to fight with them. Luna encouragingly says that as long as they keep working together, they will be able to overcome any hardship.
* "Silver Millennium" is the name of the Moon Kingdom itself, but it also refers to the time frame in which the Moon Kingdom existed.
