In the Dark Kingdom's lair, Jadeite plays a cassette tape for Queen Beryl with eerie music. As the music plays, live roses in a vase wither and die instantly. Queen Beryl is very impressed, and Jadeite explains that the tape contains special subliminal high-frequency waves that drain the energy of living things. Queen Beryl tells Jadeite to try it, so instructs the youma Cyrene to place the subliminal waves on humans' music.

In Naru's bedroom in her apartment above Jewelry Osa-P, Naru and Usagi listen to piano music on a CD. Usagi likes the music, and Naru says that she highly recommends it. Usagi says, "This is jazz, right? Naru, you're so mature." Naru replies, "I know. If you have any questions, just ask me." The music is by a pianist named Yusuke Amade. Naru thinks he must be a "wonderful and mature" man, and she would love to date him. Usagi says that she'd pass.

Meanwhile, Yusuke stands in the rain outside of Jam Records, holding a bouquet of roses. He says that today is the day he is going to confess.

Inside Jam Records, Cyrene appears in one of the studios with the Dark Kingdom tape. She explains that any stereo that plays the tape will become "infected with the evil virus," and any music recorded in the studio will have the special high-frequency subliminal sound on it. Just as she is about to play the tape, Akiko Yanagi steps into the room. Cyrene hides, and Akiko picks up the Dark Kingdom tape, mistakenly thinking it is Yusuke Amade's tape. Cyrene prepares to attack Akiko, but another employee suddenly appears and tells Akiko that Yusuke is in the lobby waiting for her. Akiko leaves the studio and walks to the lobby.

In the lobby, Akiko meets Yusuke at a table. She hands him the cassette tape, telling him that it is the demo tape from the other day. She says that it was really good, and she'd like to discuss the recording some time in the next week. Wanting to give Akiko the flowers he brought, Yusuke stutters, "Um, today is your birthday, right?" She remembers that it is, but another employee interrupts their conversation saying that there has been a mistake with the mixing. Akiko apologizes and excuses herself. Since it is rainy out, she tells Yusuke to use her umbrella by the door, and to think of a title by next week. She blows him a kiss and disappears into the elevator.

Alone, Yusuke thinks to himself that he did think of a title... which is written on the case of the cassette tape. It says, "A Waltz for Akiko." He sighs. The youma Cyrene can be seen spying on him in the background.

At Jewelry Osa-P, Usagi and Naru stand outside. Usagi complains about the annoying rain, and departs. She stops by the Game Center Crown and thinks about playing a game, but Luna tells her that she shouldn't be in an arcade so late at night. She decides to walk in anyway, but just as she is walking in, Yusuke (who was running) bumps into her. They both fall to the ground, and Usagi immediately jumps up to yell at him. Yusuke cowers on the ground, begging for his life. Usagi is confused, but tells him that she isn't going to kill him.

The two get up and walk through the rain under Usagi's umbrella. Yusuke tells her that he is being targeted by a monster, which has been chasing him. A flashback shows him walking through an alley, when Cyrene appears behind him amid a flurry of bats. The bats swarm around her until she turns into a bat-like youma herself, and Yusuke runs away as fast as possible.

Yusuke tells Usagi that it was probably just his imagination, and he apologizes for telling her such a story. The two stop walking, and he tells her that he has a job at a music club, so she doesn't have to escort him anymore with her umbrella. He reaches into his pocket to give Usagi dry-cleaning money (because he caused her suit to get wet), but can't find any. Instead, he gives her his card and tells her to call him later. She sees his name on the card and realizes who he is, but he quickly runs away.

As soon as Yusuke leaves, Luna tells Usagi that they can't leave him alone, since a youma is following him. Usagi is excited, because it's "a chance to see the world as a grown up!" Luna wonders if she really understands.

Meanwhile, in a junk yard, Cyrene kneals before a pile of old television sets. Jadeite is on all of the screesn saying, "You idiot! You haven't got the tape back yet?" She apologizes, saying she almost had him, but he got away. He then tells her to proceed as planned, and that if the tape is not returned, she can consider her life to be over. Jadeite disappears from the television screens, and Cyrene turns into a flurry of bats which fly away.

[ Commercial Break ]

Usagi and Luna stand outside of 30 Thirties, the music club where Yusuke Amade works. The club won't let teens in, so Usagi uses the disguise pen to transform into a "cool grown-up musician." Usagi wears Luna as a stole to sneak her in.

Inside, Usagi sits down at a table to watch Yusuke perform, and tells Luna to be still, because she is supposed to be an accessory. A waiter asks Usagi what she would like, and she tells him she would like cream soda. He tells her that the don't have that there, but she says she doesn't want anything. As they watch Yusuke, she says that he looks pretty cool when he plays piano. Usagi falls asleep, but wakes up when everyone starts clapping. She looks up to see that Yusuke has left the stage.

Yusuke takes the elevator down to the parking deck, where a car is waiting for him. He holds a picture of Akiko and his demo tape, and thinks about her. He feels that it's obvious that he wrote the song on the tape for her, and wonders if Akiko is "a bit dense." Suddenly, bats appear behind him. The elevator opens and Cyrene appears inside. Yusuke is terrified.

Usagi is in the stairwell, and she hears Yusuke scream. Back in the parking deck, Yusuke is unconscious, and has dropped the tape and Akiko's picture on the ground. Cyrene takes the Dark Kingdom tape back, and decides to kill the pianist for "wasting her time." As she prepares to strike, Usagi calls out from the stairs. Cyrene leaps away, then suddenly grows a pair of large, bat-like wings and flies away.

Usagi runs to Yusuke's side, asking him if he is ok. He is still lying on the ground, and manages to say that he wants his tape back. Usagi sees the tape case and photo of Akiko on the ground, and Luna says that the youma is trying to do something terrible with the tape.

Usagi and Yusuke chase the youma in Yusuke's car. Usagi tells him that he is driving like a maniac, but he is desperate to get his tape back. Usagi says that she knows it is for Akiko. "I might not look it, but I'm pretty mature, too. Of course I'd notice." Yusuke says, "It's only a crush. I know it must be funny at this age." But Usagi tells him, "Age has nothing to do with it. Even an old guy like you has the right to be in love." Yusuke is quite embarrassed by this conversation, so he changes the subject. He asks why she is following the monster with him, and she tells him that she is on the side of those in love and on the side of justice.

Usagi and Yusuke follow Cyrene to Jam Records. Bats swarm around inside the studio, and all of the employees are unconscious. While they are sleeping, Cyrene plans to play the Dark Kingdom tape in the studio, so that all music recorded there will have the subliminal high-frequency waves. Just as she prepares to play the tape, Usagi, Luna, and Yusuke burst into the room. Luna knocks the tape out of Cyrene's hand, and Usagi grabs it.

Bats swarm around Cyrene, and she turns into a large bat-like youma. She tells Usagi to give back the tape, and Yusuke realizes that it isn't his recording. Cyrene then knocks Usagi and Yusuke into the hall, and grabs Akiko. She holds her outstretched claws at Akiko's neck, taking her hostage in order to retrieve the Dark Kingdom tape. Usagi throws the tape into the air, and Cyrene lets go of Akiko to try to grab it. Meanwhile, Yusuke rushes to grab Akiko and protect her. Luna suddenly leaps through the air and grabs the tape before Cyrene can. She crushes it on the ground.

Cyrene flies out the window, and Usagi transforms into Sailor Moon with "Moon Prism Power, Make Up!" Cyrene lands at a nearby concert hall, but Sailor Moon is already there waiting for her. She says, "I won't allow you to use music for evil! Even the father of music, Haydn is mad, you know!" Luna tells Sailor Moon that Bach is the father of music, and Sailor Moon, "You shouldn't have said anything! They wouldn't have noticed!"

Cyrene emits high frequency sound waves from her wings, directed at Sailor Moon and Luna. The two manage to dodge the attacks, and when Cyrene attacks again, Sailor Moon throws a microphone into the sound waves. This manages to amplify the sound waves and direct them back at Cyrene, incapacitating her. Sailor Moon then uses "Moon Tiara Action" to destroy the youma.

It begins to rain again. At Jam Records, Akiko bandages Yusuke's knee. She says, "Yusuke, you are so stupid! What would you do if you hurt your hand? Then you wouldn't be able to play piano." He says, "I know, but if something happened to you, then I really wouldn't be able to play piano." Both of them blush.

Sailor Moon listens from a hidden corner. She thinks to herself, "I envy Akiko-san... having someone like Amade-san in love with her."

Later, in Naru's bedroom in her apartment above Jewelry Osa-P, Naru tells Usagi that Yusuke Amade was recently married. She says she is devastated, because she had a crush on him. Usagi says that he must be brave, and Naru says that she talks like she and Yusuke know each other. Usagi says, "It's because we do!"
