EPISODE 007 - DERELLA:


click for larger version Derella is a female youma under the control of Jadeite in episode 007 (Usagi hansei! Star no michiha kibishii). Her mission is to help him gather energy from human beings in order to revive Queen Metallia. Derella broke into famous Japanese teen idol Mikan Shiratori's apartment and attacked the girl while she was in the shower, freezing her in a coccoon with an icy blue substance. When the youma touched Mikan, she instantly assumed the young girl's likeness. Masquerading as Mikan, Derella and Jadeite organized a massive talent search known as Cinderella Caravan, luring dozens of innocent victims by promising them a chance at stardom. The victims were hypnotized so that they thought of nothing but performing. They then set out to pefect their "acts," and performed at a small talent showcase. At the smaller event, Derella stamped each victim's hand and told them that they passed, and were on their way to becoming stars. They were all invited to Shan Shan Plaza on Sunday to perform their acts. At Shan Shan Plaza, the event took place in an auditorium. Derella used a disco ball high above the auditorium to give the illusion that an audience was present and cheering, although in reality, all of the seats were empty. All of the victims went on stage and began performing their acts all at once, while Derella used a pin on her dress to drain their energy. Meanwhile, Usagi had heard about the performance and decided to attend. She opened the door of the auditorium and peaked in, only to find that all of the seats (except for Derella's) were empty! Derella catches her looking, and turns around, showing her true form. Usagi runs away and locks herself in the women's restroom, but eventually she transforms into Sailor Moon and returns to the auditorium to confront Derella. Derella manages to attack Sailor Moon and encase the girl in the same icy blue liquid she used on Mikan Shiratori, but Tuxedo Kamen appears and throws a rose to shatter the ice, freeing Sailor Moon. When Derella flies after Tuxedo Kamen, Sailor Moon attacks and destroys the youma with her "Moon Tiara Action" attack.

Derella could emit long, tapering streams of ice from her mouth, encasing victims in ice and keeping them in a state of suspended animation. She also had the ability to assume the likeness of another person, simply by touching that person. In her youma form, Derella had greenish-blue skin, dark red eyes, and elf-like ears. She was completely bald except for a tuft of yellow hair on the back of her head. She wore a simple purple dress. Her skins seemed to be made of ice or glass; when she was destroyed, she shattered into dozens of tiny pieces. If you listen carefully, when she lands after jumping, it sounds like the tinkling of glass. Her name, Derella, is a pun on Cinderella, the classic fairy tale about a young girl who become a princess. Derella's seiyuu was seiyuu was Chiyoko Kawashima.
