ANIME

Saphir is one of the members of the Black Moon Clan, and he is the younger brother of Prince
Demand. His first appearance in episode 74. He is not as power-hungry as the other members of
the Black Moon Clan, and is much more cautious. He loves his older brother and is very
dedicated to him, but he worries about him constantly because he is suspicious of Wiseman's
intentions, and believes that Prince Demand's love for Neo-Queen Serenity will eventually
harm the family and the mission. His first assignment is to create the Dark Henge for Esmeraude,
who he never manages to get along with, even though he found her design to be tasteless. In
episode 86, he overhears Wiseman saying that he is only using the Black Moon Clan. Saphir was
needed by Wiseman in order to call forth Death Phantom. Wiseman, however, catches him. He flees
to Tokyo in the present day, and is found and healed by the Four Wierd Sisters (who had previously
been healed). He is in love with Petz, but has to leave her in order to go warn his brother,
Prince Demand, about Wiseman's plans. Unfortunately, Wiseman kills Saphir before Prince Demand
is made aware of Wiseman's plans. When he is dying, the bandage on his head falls and it is
revealed that the black moon symbol on his head has disappeared. Prince Demand is hurt by
his brother's death, as he will never be able to fulfill an old promise that Saphir would
one day see flowers on Earth and live there. Saphir has the power of Dark Matter. His seiyuu
is Tsutomu Kashiwakura
MANGA

Saphir appears in act 14, volume 04 of the manga. He is the alchemist of the Black Moon Clan,
and is constantly creating droids, using the power of the evil Black Crystal reactor on
Nemesis. He is the most cautious member of the Black Moon Clan, and prefers to take a slow
approach to things. When he suggests changes, however, the other members of the Clan criticize
him. He is not the true brother of Prince Demand, only his blood brother. In act 20, when
Usagi comes upon the Black Crystal reactor, Saphir says that it creates negative energy by
taking the light from the planet and transforming it. All of the used energy, however, is
putting a strain on the reactory, and he alone knows what will happen if they continue to use it
so. Saphir is dedicated to Prince Demand, and although he is suspicious of Wiseman, he agrees
to go along with Prince Demand's scheme to return to the past and rewrite history. Pessimistic
Saphir says that things will probably go wrong, but it doesn't matter. Saphir tries to kill
Usagi because he blames her and the ginzuishou for changing Prince Demand, as the Prince is
obsessed with her. Luckily, the ginzuishou saves Usagi and causes a meltdown within the reactor.
The castle that the reactor is in begins to crumble, and Wiseman brings Saphir and Prince Demand
to his underground castle, where they meet Black Lady. They ask Wiseman what his true plans
are, but Wiseman uses his powers to manipulate them into loyalty again. Black Lady gives Saphir
a Black Crystal earring to wear. In act 22, Black Lady calls on Saphir and Prince Demand to
attack the senshi. Saphir uses his power of Death Hands (long, shadowy, inhuman hands) to
capture Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars, while Prince Demand attacks Sailor Jupiter and Sailor
Venus. Demand rebels against Wiseman, and Black Lady orders Saphir to kill the Prince. Saphir
tries to use the power of Death Hands on Prince Demand, but Demand uses his power of the third
eye on his forehead to destory Saphir instead.
