EPISODE 019 - SHISHIZA/LEO


click for a larger image! Leo (or Shishiza) is a unique creature that appears in episode 019 of the anime. This creature is not truly a youma, but rather, an illusion created by Nephrite. Unlike the youma, he has no human-like features and is not immediately destroyed by Sailor Moon's Moon Tiara Action attack. He also does not have an official name, but many fans call him Leo or Shishiza due to the fact that he was created from the stellar constellation Leo (known in Japanese as Shishiza). In episode 019, Nephrite disguises himself as Tuxedo Kamen in order to lure Sailor Moon into a trap and learn her true identity. The plan fails, so Nephrite calls on the power of the star Regulus of the constellation Leo (Shishiza) to give him power. An illusion of a star sky appears above Sailor Moon, and the constellation Leo forms among the stars. A lion-like, Leo, creature leaps out of the constellation and begins chasing after Sailor Moon. Just as he is about to pounce on her, a red rose flies through the air and hits his face. Tuxedo Kamen then leaps in front of Sailor Moon and tells her to run. The lion attacks him, so Sailor Moon uses her Moon Tiara Action attack to strike the lion and knock him backwards... although, to her surprise, it does not immediately destroy the creature. Tuxedo Kamen and Sailor Moon quickly run into a nearby elevator shaft, and the lion disappears. Nephrite laughs and says, "You fell for it!" Once the pair enter the elevator, Tuxedo Kamen realizes that it is a trap.

Leo looks like a male lion. He has turquoise fur, a lavender mane, and red eyes.
