EPISODE 032 - AKAN


click for larger version Akan was a powerful youma who appeared in episode 032. Zoisite had modified the Kurozuishou so that it could transform ordinary humans into youma, hoping to transform Naru into a youma and lure Sailor Moon into the open. He followed Naru to a local amusement park where she and Umino were watching a show entitled Redman Show: Monster Fighter Redman. When he used the crystal, he missed and the burst of energy hit the actor playing Redman instead. He quickly transformed into the youma Akan, and began throwing marimo (green algae) balls at the audience members, who were engulfed in them when they were hit. Umino, who was dressed as Tuxedo Umino Kamen, attempted to attack Akan in order to protect Naru. He threw fried shrimp before physically attacking the youma, but was injured and knocked unconscious during the process. Naru was ultimately trapped within one of the marimo balls. Sailor Moon quickly arrived on the scene and confronted the youma, scolding him for turning a "national treasure, Lake Akan's marimo balls" into a weapon. She attacked him with Moon Tiara Action, calling out "Just a little bit!" while the tiara was in the air in order to make the attack less severe. The tiara slowed down and hit Akan in the back, knocking him over and giving Sailor Moon the opportunity to use Moon Healing Escalation to heal him. He transformed back into his human form as the actor playing Redman, and soon resumed the show.

Akan was named after Akan Lake in Hokkaido, which is famous for the marimo balls which grow there. Marimo balls are a rare, spherical growth form of green algae.

Akan's seiyuu was Shinobu Satouchi.
