click for larger version Kaidou appears only in the side story "Casablanda Memories" in Volume 11. He is the top assistant of Rei's father, a popular politician in the Democratic Liberal Party (representative of the actual Liberal Democratic political party in Japan). Since Rei was small, he has been like a brother to her. He visited her when she lived at home with her parents, as well as at the Shrine, where she has lived with her grandfather since her mother died. When Rei was younger, he told her that the color white suited her, and told her about casablanca lillies, which she thought were beautiful. Since then, she gets casablanca lillies and a white one-piece dress each year on her birthday in her father's name, though they are really from Kaidou. On Rei's previous birthday, she dined alone with Kaidou, as her father couldn't attend. She asked if he was really her father's successor, as everyone said that he was. He told her that he doesn't feel that he is fit for politics, and that he doesn't want to have an unhappy daughter. Two months later, in June, Rei sees Kaidou in the street with another woman. She calls her father, and he tells her that Kaidou is set to be his political successor, and that Kaidou is engaged to the woman, who is the daughter of the leader of the Democratic Liberal Party. Kaidou visits her later, and she asks him about his upcoming marriage. He tells her that her father suggested the marriage, and that he couldn't refuse. She tells him that she wanted to marry him, and that because he will become a politician, he will have unhappy children. He simply says that he will not have children, kisses her, and leaves.
