Episode of Appearance: 002 - I'll punish you! The fortune house is a youma's mansion

The House of Fortune is a fortune telling parlor that appeared in episode 002. It served as the front for one of Jadeite's energy-gathering operations for the Dark Kingdom. One of his youma named Balm, having assumed human form as a soothsayer who specialized in reading tarot cards, hypnotized her teenaged customers by looking them in the eye. After they were successfully hypnotized, she planted a tarot card on them which caused them to lose all of their inhibitions and do whatever they pleased. This generated enormous amounts of what Jadeite referred to as "the energy of rebellious youth" as a result - which the monster could then harness with the help of a special master card in her possession. As the victims went around doing whatever they wished, more and more energy was generated. Eventually, the victims became mindless zombies under Balm's complete control. This plan was eventually foiled through the combined efforts of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, restoring the fortune-telling parlor's customers to normal. After Balm's destruction, it is uncertain what happened to the House of Fortune; it never again appears in the series.



Appearance


click for larger version Usagi says that the House of Fortune building is very guady; it has a large sign outside announcing what it is. Inside, the atmosphere is very smoky due to incense that is constantly burned. The walls and floors are almost entirely purple. Opposite the entrance, there is a large red curtain leading into a smaller area. click for larger version On either side of the entrance to the smaller area is a tall white column. Balm leads victims into the smaller are behind the curtain to read tarot cards for them and plant an energy-stealing tarot card on them. She and the victim sit across from each other at a large round table covered by a red cloth. They sit in high-backed chairs; Balm's has red upholstery while the victim's has purple upholstery.
